Well, there seems to be at least SOME progress. Tony and I have discussed a few ideas, all of which I think have potential. I think sticking to simpler ideas for now would be the way to go, as it seems that all of the sites that I go to do one thing and do it well. If we can get a few of those off the ground, we can grow from there.
I’ve decided that Ruby on Rails would be the best platform for this. This will allow for rapid prototyping, quick development, and relatively well designed apps. My current testbed server supports RoR, so Tony and I are going to try to flesh out one of these ideas and then develop it. With any luck, it will be incredibly popular and then MONEY ABOUND! Or just reasonably successful. Or kind of used. One of the three.

My name is Michael Wilson. I’m 23 years old, and I work at a gigantic company writing software 8 hours a day. I wake up at 8, spend the hour getting ready to be at work by 9. I leave at 5, the commute gets me home by 5:30, which leaves me 4 and a half hours until I should go to bed (I usually need about 10 hours of sleep to feel good in the morning, but I can do with 8). Adding dinner and night time rituals, this realistically gets me about 2 or 3 hours of fun time unless I deprive myself of sleep (this is usually what I end up doing). This has poor consequences like making it impossible to concentrate the next day.
I’ve bitched and complained about this stuff since I was a kid (public schooling seems to be built on the same principles), and I’ve decided that it’s time to end this. Here are my goals:
1) Come up with a million dollar idea. (Easy, right?)
2) Quit my current soul crushing job.
3) Retire at some wonderfully young age.
I vow to not be working at 30. That doesn’t mean I have to be successful. It just means that, on my 30th birthday, I’m not in the work world any more. Period.
I have a good set of skills. I’ve been coding in some form or another since I was 8, I got a good GPA in high school. I can pick things up with relative ease and speed, and though normally somewhat introverted, I can be personable when necessary. The key is in their application.
This is supposed to document my attempts at starting my own business or becoming independently wealthy. Hopefully I have interesting things to say and there are interesting things to see here. Oh well. Here goes nothing.
